WROCLAW CHRISTMAS MARKET

Wroclaw, pronounced Rots-voff, is a city in the west of Poland. Named European Capital of Culture in 2016, Wroclaw has been tempting visitors, looking for a more authentic experience away from nearby Prague. The Wroclaw Christmas Market is bursting with regional and international delicacies. It runs from Mid November finishing a few days before Christmas.

I’ve visited Wroclaw three times and I am in love with the city. The food is amazing, the beer cheap and excellent, the hundreds of dwarf statues around the city are great entertainment for young and old and the main market square is uplifting with its bright colours and fairytale architecture.Wroclaw Dwarf Dressed for winterI have visited the Christmas markets in Prague and I must say I was underwhelmed. While the decorations that adorned the well-preserved city were beautiful, the market itself was lacking authenticity, I struggled to find an ornament to take home that was made within Europe, let alone the Czech Republic. Also the crowds and potential for pick-pocketing made me uneasy.

So when we had family visiting and wanted to take a weekend away from Dresden (which in my opinion has the best Christmas markets in Germany) and the choice was between Prague and Wroclaw, Wroclaw won hands down.

Wroclaw is also very family friendly for those travelling with children. You will find a large section of the Wroclaw Christmas market design just to entertain kids.

Wroclaw Christmas Market is perfect for children. Kids love it.

And just like our previous trips to Wroclaw our visit to Wroclaw’s Christmas markets did not disappoint.

So why did we love the Wroclaw Christmas Market:

  • The food is good
  • The drinks are strong, cheap and delicious
  • The people are friendly
  • The city is beautiful
  • There are a lot of great restaurants
  • Shopping
  • Dwarfs to find (download the app)
  • Plenty to entertain kids
